Default Academy mission, just after searing, what did I miss?

Ok, so I joined the academy and didn't get to do a PvP battle, I just did the cave crawl, so after it was done I closed out of the game. Now I just appeared in Ascalon (post-sear) without doing the walk-to-it part. Can anyone give me details of what I missed? Where I need to exit from Ascalon and which direction to walk to make sure I get any pieces of information or quests I may have missed.

Thanks for your help.

Matt

Sorry, I don't think I understand what you're looking for? Going through the academy takes you to Post Sear Ascalon, all new quests, missions etc. Is there anything in particular you are trying to find?

Yes, I went through the academy, no PvP mission, I did the cave crawl, then the searing vid happened and I closed the game immediately. I hoped I would get to go through the academy to get a PvP mission in, but instead it starts me in Ascalon City, after the searing. SO, I missed the walk TO the city. I am wondering if there is any way for me to backtrack (i.e. leave the city from the west gate and head south) and catch what I missed. I'm wondering exactly what info, people, quests, skills I missed.

Thanks,

Matt

There is no "walk to the city" that I know of. After the vid of the searing you continue the game in "Old Ascalon" right outside the main entrance. You can go back out and talk to the guards their still there and will play a role in future quests. I really suggest you continue. You didn't miss anything.

Dunno maybe they changed it in one of the updates. I had a friend who had lot's of trouble getting into the PvP. Know I here that there is no PvP once entering Academy, strange.

If it's PvP you're looking for there is a random matchup arena in Ascalon City. talk to the Gate Guard in the city.

i think he is refering to the old beta where i started in a camp was told to get a weapom from a chest and sent to askalon.
on the way i met *oink* and talked to him and he followed me (i was a ranger secondary)
fight a bit and get to askalon city

no walk today now you travel in time and poof you are there

Ah, yes. I had forgotten about that. It was so long ago. You used to do that instead of Pre-searing Ascalon.

Or he might be talking about the PVP you do right after talking to Sir Tydus adn telling him you are ready to enter the Academy.
Once you do that--there is a countdown timer that once it reaches zero you are put in a random group and have to fight another random group of players. Whoever wins this encounter (you win by having more kills than the other team) gets a morale boost and then you are transported to another instance--this time your team has to go fight the bnamed Charr. Once he is dead--you hit the cutscene and end p in Post Searing.
You will skip this whole thing and go from saying yes to Tydus and then the cutscene if there are no other players waiting to go to the academy.
When I did it the first time--I was grouped up with another monk and we had 2 henchman..not sure who we fought--but one had a ranger pet. We were the red team and they were the blue team. There is no penalty for dying or losing in this brief fight.

I believe I read somewhere--the manual maybe--that the two teams are randomly chosen based on levels and numbers and henchman are auto grouped with you based on class. We had tweo player monks so our two henchamn were the wizard and warrior.

Yeh, but I think that they've taken that out now. I'll have to try when I get home from work tonite. I have a toon just about ready to go through the academy.

The last academy I did my teammate had a ranger and I had my m/r I think we had a fighter and a wizard against 5-6 blue dudes. We had our pets so maybe the teams were adjusted?? Anyways it was one of the more fun missions to undertake esp when the blue team just dies when you whipped them. FYI pets die quick if they are below the level of the other team . My lvl 8 stalker didn't get hurt while the other dude's wolf ate dirt.

I am assuming that you post-seared when no one else was on the timer to post-sear. No one to fight = no PvP maybe.

That is what I think also Butcherboy. On my second char that happened I only did the cave crawl and no pvp fight--I thought it was because I had already done it once-but I swear I read somewhere that you go straight to the tunnel crawl if there are no others that are ready ot jump to Post Searing.

that was a fun fight for me too--I had a heads up from someone in-game that it was coming up--so I made sure to have decent skills on my bar prior to the fight. I had no idea who to target but AOE spells are pretty esp since I think we ended having barbecued lynx afterwards

Yeah, well when I "appeared" in old ascalon, it looked as if I had a walk to get to the city gates, I could see them, but I wasn't immediately out the door. I could see one green dot on my map, and I'm not sure who that was. But if I exit one of the gates now I talk to Warmaster Grast, and that guy from the White Mantle a little ways up (along with Elementalist Aziure). It sounds like I haven't missed anyone or any quests on the way in, so I'll just do the quests I can find from here on out.

Thanks for the input.

The PvP I referred to was the PvP that used to happen upon entering the Academy, I didn't get to do that. The "walk" was what I assumed would happen since from my view, I could see the city, but I was going to have to walk to get there, and I could see red and green dots on my map, so presumably I was on the outside of the city a little way off.

That sounds like the 2nd mission at the academy where you clear out the bunker with Mr. Dramatic guy himself the Prince or the point where you appear about 50ft from the enterance to the "new" town.

At level 8, I have no idea what kind of damage a stalker does but he has durability. I just know he was ignored during the fight lol. If I do ever get a wolf, I'll ensure that he has time to munch down some baddies until he is at my same level. Anything else is wolf skin jakets for the other team.

/request: could devs add a damage caused counter for pets?

When did you do the Academy? Since release, I gone through it three times, and I always got a PvP match. However, a couple times during the beta I did it at odd hours and only got the caves mission, presumably because there weren't enough other people going through the Academy at the same time to arrange a little PvP.

Oh, and it has never depositied me in Ascalon City, there is indeed a walk to the city. It's always deposited me in Old Ascalon, the explorable area, and the first Vanguard you meet gives you a quest to go talk to Sir Tydus about the Krytan ambassador because he has the ear of the king, and you do indeed need to walk to Ascalon City to complete it. Whether that quest is still available if you jumped out in the middle of the Academy thing, I know not. He may still be out there waiting to give you the quest, or you may have missed it since the setup is he catches you returning from a mission (two years after the Searing). It's no big deal if you missed it, however. You'll get more experience just wanding around killing things for a few minutes...

Monday evening, about 8:00pm Central time. I really think that if there aren't enough people for a PvP you should be given the option to wait longer, or even just come back later.

Thanks again.
